The Story behind the Lens

While Inalåjan is about the quiet solitude of the rugged east coast, Tumon Bay is the heartbeat of Guam’s west coast. During my stay, my hotel balcony became a front-row seat to the Philippine Sea’s nightly transformation. Each evening offered a completely different palette; this particular sunset, captured on my fifth night, found the perfect balance between a fiery sky and the rhythmic movement of the bay.

The Composition

This piece captures the transition from day to night. As the sun dips toward the horizon, the vibrant oranges and deep blues bleed into the water, silhouetting two lone paddleboarders. Their presence adds a sense of scale and human connection to the vastness of the sea, highlighting the serene, shared energy that makes Tumon Bay so iconic.

"There is a specific rhythm to Tumon Bay that you only start to feel after a few days. Staying on the west coast, my evening ritual became watching the Philippine Sea transform; by the fifth night, I realized that no two sunsets were ever the same. While the east coast offers a rugged, solitary dawn, Tumon is where the island breathes together. Seeing the paddleboarders glide across the water as the sky turned to fire was the perfect 'evening reflection'—a reminder that even in the most traveled areas, you can find a moment of absolute peace."
