Rock Reflection | The Sky Below
The Story behind the Lens
Captured at the base of the massive cliffs below Two Lover's Point, this piece is a study in optical discovery. While walking the limestone karst of Gun Beach at low tide, I found this weathered formation. From my standing perspective, looking through the hole in the rock revealed only the distant, dark horizon. However, by shifting my angle and looking into the still, crystal-clear tidal pool trapped within the stone, the vibrant blue sky and passing clouds suddenly appeared. It was a moment where the earth provided a mirror to see what was otherwise hidden from view.
The Composition
This photograph centers on the concept of "hidden symmetry." The composition highlights the rugged, porous texture of the ancient limestone, creating a heavy, earthbound frame for the delicate, airy reflection below. By capturing the singular moment where the tide was perfectly still and the sun was at its peak, the image creates a natural window that bridges the gap between the stone beneath our feet and the sky above our heads.
Fine Art Quality
To ensure the cerulean blues of the reflected sky and the intricate details of the limestone translate perfectly to your walls, I personally print each piece using the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100.
- Artisan Textured (Palo Duro Etching 315): My top recommendation. The heavy, 100% cotton paper adds a tangible, three-dimensional depth to the weathered stone, making the reflection feel even more like a "window."
- Vibrant Metallic (Polar Luster Metallic 255): A pearlescent finish that makes the tidal pool reflections appears to glow with the intensity of the tropical sun—perfect for making the "hidden" sky pop.
- Standard Matte (Polar Matte 230): A clean, glare-free finish that emphasizes the natural contrast between the dark stone and the bright sky. Starting at $45.00.

Artist’s Note
"There is a specific kind of quiet you find at the base of Two Lover's Point at low tide. You have to move carefully over the eroded stone, but it leads you to views most people miss. I photographed this rock from several angles, but it wasn't until I looked down that the sky truly 'spoke' through the stone. It felt like finding a secret window into the heart of the Pacific—a reminder that sometimes you have to change your perspective to see the full beauty of what’s right in front of you."
