Inalåjan Sunrise | The First Light
The Story behind the Lens
While Tumon Bay is the heartbeat of the west coast, Inalåjan is the soul of the east. This piece was captured at the very edge of the island, where the Pacific Ocean first meets Guam. To get this perspective, I made the early morning trek up a set of stairs, over the platform railing, along a rugged path to reach the lone bench overlooking the coastline. Though I was physically alone on that hill, I wasn't solitary. It was 6:00 AM Sunday in Guam, and I held my phone out so my family in New York could watch the sun rise with me at 4:00 PM on their Saturday. Halfway around the globe, we shared the transition of light together across a video call.
The Composition
This photograph captures the "solitary dawn" that defines Guam's eastern edge. The composition highlights the raw, untamed energy of the Pacific crashing against the ancient coral structures below. The vibrant oranges of the horizon break through the deep blues of the morning sky, creating a balance between the unmoving stone and the relentless movement of the sea. It is a visual representation of endurance and the digital bridge that connects us to home.
Fine Art Quality
To ensure the golden hues of the dawn translate perfectly to your walls, I personally print each piece using the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100.
- Artisan Textured (Palo Duro Etching 315): My top recommendation for this shot. The heavy texture of the paper mirrors the physical grit of the limestone and adds a museum-quality depth to the crashing waves.
- Vibrant Metallic (Polar Luster Metallic 255): Engineered to enhance the "mirror" effect. The metallic base gives the morning sun and water reflections a glowing, pearlescent finish that changes as you walk past the print.
- Standard Matte (Polar Matte 230): A sophisticated finish that keeps the focus on the sharp detail of the rock formations and the delicate gradient of the rising sun.

Artist’s Note
"There is a specific rhythm to the east coast that requires you to be still. Reaching that lone bench on the hill was a ritual of connection. As the sun broke over the Pacific to start my Sunday, I was sharing it with the people I love most while they were still finishing their Saturday in New York. This 'First Light' is a reminder that no matter the miles or the time zones between us, we can still find a way to stand under the same sky together."
