The Story behind the Lens

Returning to the pools just an hour after the sun had fully cleared the horizon, the scene had transformed. The dramatic shadows of dawn were replaced by a brilliant, overhead clarity that turned the volcanic basins into a series of crystal sanctuaries. Standing at the water's edge in the park, the air was still, and the pools were a perfect mirror, undisturbed by the morning breeze. It was a moment of absolute transparency—where the coral beneath the surface was as visible as the sky above.

The Composition

This piece focuses on the "Inland Calm." By positioning the lens at the park’s edge, the composition highlights the contrast between the jagged, ancient coral walls and the glass-like stillness of the protected water. The mid-morning light reveals the vibrant turquoise depths of the basins, while the distant horizon line serves as a reminder of the restless Pacific Ocean just beyond the reef's natural fortress.
