Pagat Point Coast | The Spirit of Inafa' Maolek
The Story behind the Lens
The trek to Pagat Point is a journey through time, leading past ancient latte stones and deep limestone caves to the rugged eastern edge of the island. I captured this view of the Pacific Ocean after a long morning spent documenting the forest’s hidden gems, including the vibrant Pacific Blue-tailed Skink. However, the humidity and the intense climb back up the cliffside began to take a serious toll. As heat exhaustion set in, the "quest" became a challenge of safety. It was in this moment that I experienced the true heart of Guam: Inafa' Maolek.
The Composition
This landscape study captures the raw, untamed power of Guam’s eastern coastline. The composition focuses on the jagged, "honeycombed" limestone cliffs as they withstand the relentless surge of the Pacific. The high-contrast light emphasizes the deep shadows in the ancient stone and the brilliant white of the crashing surf. It is a visual representation of a place that is both beautiful and formidable, requiring respect from all who visit.
Fine Art Quality
To ensure the razor-sharp textures of the limestone and the deep blues of the Pacific translate perfectly to your walls, I personally print each piece using the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100.
- Artisan Textured (Palo Duro Etching 315): My top recommendation. The heavy, museum-grade texture of this paper is the perfect match for the jagged, porous surface of the Pagat cliffs.
- Vibrant Metallic (Polar Luster Metallic 255): Adds an incredible "glow" to the ocean spray and the sun-drenched surfaces of the stone.
- Standard Matte (Polar Matte 230): A sophisticated finish that maintains the sharpest possible detail in the rock formations and the horizon line. Starting at $45.00.

Artist’s Note
"Pagat is a place of immense beauty, but that day it was also a place of immense challenge. While I was struggling to make it back to the trailhead, a local CHamoru hiker and her friends saw me in distress. Without a second thought, she stopped their own journey to live out the spirit of Inafa' Maolek—helping me with water, shade, and the encouragement I needed to reach safety. This photograph will always remind me of the breathtaking views of the Pacific, but more importantly, it stands as a tribute to the empathy and kindness of the people of Guam."
